Joanna Hickson and Jenny Barden bring their travelling roadshow, Tudors and Roses to The Raleigh Hall. They talk about their writing, the true lives behind their novels, and some of the women who shaped history through their passion and courage. From the English Queen who defied convention to find love and found the Tudor dynasty, to the wayward Red Rose girl who faced triumph and disaster as mother to the White Rose kings. Enter a forgotten past of romance, danger and adventure… For 25 years Joanna Hickson worked for the BBC as a writer and presenter on radio and television but recently she has turned to historical fiction, publishing three novels set in the 15th century. Her debut novel, The Agincourt Bride, was shortlisted for the 2014 Romantic Novelists’ Historical Novel of the year.
Jenny is an artist turned city solicitor turned author of Elizabethan adventures. Mistress of the Sea and The Lost Duchess were both shortlisted for the For Best Historical Read.
Obsessed with history, Jenny has trekked across the Andes to the hidden city of Vilcabamba, negotiated the jungle-obscured remains of the Camino Real, and given talks in Elizabethan dress in the hold of the Golden Hinde.
